PROFILE

Before co-establishing Fuse in 2010, Simon ran the Manchester office of one of the then leading UK architectural practices: careyjones architects. Simon joined the practice in 1999 having previously worked at Aedas and SMC Gower in Leeds. Prior to that, Simon had studied Architecture at the University of Plymouth and Mississippi State University.

At careyjones, Simon quickly established himself as a strong designer with excellent project running ability and was soon promoted to an Associate position. His rise through the practice culminated when he became a Director in 2007.

As his career has progressed, Simon’s interest and expertise in the regeneration of urban brownfield sites has developed. He has been involved in the design and delivery of many complex mixed-use projects, including the BAE Technology Park in Stevenage for MBDA, the multiple-award-winning Granary Wharf in Leeds for Manchester based ISIS Waterside Regeneration and Townside in Bury, Greater Manchester for Ask Developments.

When his former practice sought to expand its north-west base, Simon was the obvious candidate to spearhead the practice’s drive into Manchester, building upon established relationships within the construction industry.  In 2007 he opened their Manchester office and became responsible for the development and continued expansion of a portfolio of work in the region. Along with his team and project running duties, Simon was also responsible at Board level for maintaining the company’s high standards in sustainable design and business practices.

At Fuse Simon has maintained his presence in the north-west, opening the company’s second studio in April 2011 in the centre of Manchester. Currently Simon is over-seeing the construction stage of a mixed use scheme in Urmston, Greater Manchester for ASK Developments. The project is the fourth phase of a wider development and includes approximately 40,000 sqft of retail space and a single floor of assisted living apartments. Along with this major project, Simon and the rest of Fuse Manchester team are busy designing several refurbishment projects including an office, a city centre hotel and the conversion of a cinema building to house retail/leisure uses.
