Ryalls says the biggest challenge was the diversity of the brief, how to create an office, salon and hairdressing academy that reflected the firm’s style. September 2008: WorldArchitecture News – The Soundhouse, Sheffield
“Working with a forward thinking client such as the University of Sheffield allowed careyjones to really push the design boundaries for the Soundhouse. The pioneering ‘music box’ design creates a stunning piece of architecture that sits well as part of the dynamic urban fabric, respecting important existing and new buildings in the surrounding area,” said Mike Harris, Director at careyjones architects. “Furthermore, the overall aesthetic of the black rubber quilt is intended as a literal translation of the need to acoustically contain the building’s use contained within. As a practice we look forward to strengthening our relationship with the University and continuing our work in Sheffield.”

September 2007: Night Magazine – IndigO2 Live Music Club at the O2 Arena, Greenwich, London
“The Indigo2 club is one of the few ancillary venues at the O2 to be owned by AEG Live, the live events branch of AEG that is responsible for the O2 Arena. Inside, a beautifully crafted auditorium by Carey Jones Interiors has been arranged around a large stage (8.5m by 16.5m) and nightclub, which hosts high profile acts (Jools Holland, Timberland and Beverly Knight were amongst the first to tread Indigo2’s boards) and club nights – often designed to tie in with the main attraction at the O2 Arena: the club is currently doing a roaring trade in after-show parties for the likes of Prince, Bon Jovi, and The Rolling Stones”.
